McHenry Sportsman’s Club Newsletter (September 2008)

TARGET COSTS - have increased by $1 per box or $.20 per round.   The Board has increased non-member rounds by $.50 to help offset this increase.   Member rates are not being increased at this time.

FINANCIAL STATUS - Mark Nelson, our Treasurer, reports that the Club is in sound financial shape.   Major expenses during September were $1,300 for the porch repair, $1,250 for the monthly lease, $315 for trap repair parts, and $350 for new Club patches.

TRAP OPERATIONS - The Club threw 1,403 practice rounds in September which was 56% more than September 2007 and 19% more than 2006 even thought the Club was closed for 2 days due to heavy rain.   Target costs were $3,035 in Sept.

  • Trap 2 & 3 received extensive maintenance during the month.   The elevator timing was reset and broken elevator springs replaced.   These actions solved most of the broken target problems and wild target problems.   The pump motor in #2 burned up and was replaced.
  • Trap #3 is still throwing right hand targets that are lower and more right than they should be.   The current thinking is that the arm may need to be rebuilt.   Trap #2 is still sticking in the left position occasionally apparently due to a limit switch problem.
  • The Remington in Trap #1 has stopped working again due, it appears, to an electrical problem.   Plans are to pull the trap and repair it during October.
  • The pattern board should be back in action soon.   It has been repaired.

PROJECTS - Numerous projects have been completed in August and September.

  • Porch Repair - the wonderful porch repair job was done by Jim Eschenbauch, Ed Tonkin, Mike Lunebach, and Mick Schacht -- in the rain no less.   Please make sure these guys know how much you appreciate their efforts.
  • Concrete work was done on Trap #3 by Roger Schad, Greg Rauhut, and Greg Hartmann.
  • Outside lights were repaired by Gene Higby and Greg Timm.   A new security light was installed by Gene Higby and Mark Nelson.   They also installed a new light over the counter.
  • The new trap doors were completed by Mark and Mattie Nelson, and George Strode.   The paint job was done by Neil, the trap kid.
  • George Strode put some more gunk on the flat roof of the club house in an effort to stop some leaks.

CLUB PATCHES - a new, simpler club logo has been designed.   The first 200 members in 2009 will receive a 2" patch.   New 3½" patches are on order and will be for sale.

WINTER is coming. In December the operating hours will change to 11AM-4PM due to early darkness.
